Cimitero Campicioi

Cimitero Campicioi title=

The history of this small cemetery, located in the town of "Campicioi", along the road that goes up to Prà Rodont, begins in 1916, when the Austro-Hungarian military command asked the municipality of Pinzolo for an area where they could bury their fallen.
The cemetery thus began to welcome fallen soldiers, coming from the Adamello front, but also from civilian cemeteries or other military cemeteries. In 1922, the cemetery passed back to the Municipality of Pinzolo and continued to be used for its original purpose, receiving a total of 298 bodies. After 1924, at the request of the families concerned, the first exhumations of corpses for transport to other cemeteries began. This site survived for a few more years until, in the 1960s, it was lost as a result of construction work in the area. However, the desire to reconstruct an important piece of his own history remained alive in the community of Pinzolo which, in the autumn of 2014, rebuilt the small wooden chapel, the enclosure and the crosses, based on vintage photographs.

STRENGTH:

Accurate historical reconstruction.
