Storo is the most populous municipality in all Giudicarie, and is made up of the districts of Lodrone, Darzo and Riccomassimo, in addition to the main town itself.
The town stretches along the banks of the alluvial plain of the river Chiese, near the mouth of the river Pàlvico, which flows down from Val di Ledro. The ancient quarters of Storo are extremely picturesque, consisting of houses boasting distinctive features (galleries, courts, sacred murals, etc.) with cobbled streets, passageways and piazzas with granite fountains dotted between them.
It is an important centre of culture, commerce, industry, craftsmanship and agriculture, with links to the nearby Lombardy area. Don’t miss a visit to the parish church of S. Floriano, dated 1199, with its ancient organ and exquisite paintings by Romanino; or to the little church of S. Lorenzo, from the 15th century, featuring frescoes by the Baschenis. Not far from the village, visitors can admire the Fontana Bianca and Fontana Santa waterfalls.
