Val Brenta as told by Piergiorgio
Piergiorgio, born in Madonna di Campiglio in 1969, comes from a family of well-known mountaineers who have lived there for generations.
Who is Piergiorgio? He is a ski instructor, alpine guide, guide instructor and Director of the Trentino Mountain Rescue School (the Trentino Alpine Rescue). He has been climbing on the walls of the Brenta Dolomites since his teenage years, was the Italian ski mountaineering champion in 1991, and has participated in several non-European expeditions (including the new “Infinito Sud” route on Cerro Torre in 1995).
Being born in Val Brenta is like being born in Heaven.
WhyVal Brenta?
Piergiorgio has lived in the valley for 56 years, ever since he was born at the foot of Val Brenta. His job, as an alpine guide, allows him to spend his days in these valleys, which he suggests tackling from the bottom, calmly, admiring all that the valley has to offer.
And Val Brenta is a valley with a lot to offer in terms of level and altitude.
In the Malga Brenta Bassa area, it is possible to enjoy wonderful walks in the gorge and in the forest, where it is easy to spot the native animals.
Going up in altitude, you arrive at Malga Brenta Alta and then up to the historic refuge cabins such as Brentei and Alimonta. Higher still, at around 2,600 m, are the fixed-aid climbing routes (vie ferrate) that have made Brenta’s tourism history, the Bocchette Centrali and, above, the ascents to Campanil Basso, Campanil Alto, Brenta Alta and Brenta Bassa and the Crozzon di Brenta, which dominates the Brenta Valley with its 1,000 m of impressive climbing wall.
For Piergiorgio, Val Brenta is his home valley and being born there is like being born in Heaven. His father, also an alpine guide, passed on to him the values and passion for the mountains from an early age, expertly revealing to his young eyes its most remote and fascinating aspects.
He lives, walks, runs and climbs in the mountains.
The mountains are his life.
