La Val de la Meda raccontata da Alessandro
A cheesemaker and highland cowherd at Malga Splaz, just above the small town of Borgo Lares, Alessandro was born in these valleys and has lived here all his life. Val de la Meda for him is peace and calm. Slowness.
Who is Alessandro?
Alessandro Franchini, breeder and cheesemaker by profession for 20 years. He was born in these valleys and has always lived here. Before that he was a social worker for disabled children, and before that he travelled around Trentino and Italy with “Abies Alba”, a Celtic music group.
Then a big life change, a dream come true: becoming a cheesemaker and highland cowherd. Twenty years of work at an altitude of 1,000 metres above Bolbeno, at Malga Splaz, twenty cows and a series of exquisite and genuine cheeses made at high altitude.
For him, the meaning of life is music and the sounds of nature. He listens to them, interprets them, charms them with the notes of his violin.
The higher you go, the closer you get to unspoilt nature.
Why Val de la Meda?
Val de la Meda opens up above the alpine pasture of the same name. Alessandro walks it every day with his eyes turned towards the sky and the trees. He wants to listen to the stories they tell every day. He wants to savour the scents of the forest, linger over the birdsong in spring and the sounds of the stream. All this slowly makes him feel at peace with himself. No other place could do this.
“Val de la Meda gives me peace and calm. It is all to be experienced slowly, listening to the sounds of nature, taking in the smells of the forest. There is a particular moment in the evening, at dusk, when all the birds begin to sing differently. They seem to say hello, goodnight, see you tomorrow, a new day is coming”.
