Val di Fumo as told by Antonella
Water, strength, glacier. For a sculptor who has lived in the small village of Praso for 35 years, Val di Fumo is water that flows and shapes, smooths and polishes. It is glacier and freedom.
Who is Antonella?
Antonella Grazzi, a sculptor who has lived in Valdaone, in the small village of Praso, for 35 years, models and creates sculptures, taking inspiration and materials, shapes, words and sounds from the nature of her valley. “When I go to the mountains I feel truly free, I have this need to be in open spaces, to walk in the woods, to be among the trees.
I am very lucky to have spaces like this to observe. Nature, even in its faults, helps me to create a form that gives me immense pleasure”.
So her sculptures, whether they are made of wood or stone, retain the welcome of surrounding nature, but also have the strength, tenacity and pride of being part of a world where the mountain is the protagonist of the passage of time.
I really enjoy modelling nature. Even in its flaws, I work with the forms and create art.
Why Val di Fumo?
They call it “the little Canada of Trentino” because of its abundance of rivulets, waterfalls and streams. Val di Fumo is a valley of glacial origin, which lies at the foot of the majestic Carè Alto (3,462 metres above sea level). This mountain is omnipresent, its grandeur and brilliance permeating the appearance of the entire valley, which explodes with colour and freshness in autumn.
It is no coincidence that Antonella recommends “coming here mindfully, perhaps away from the summer, in spring and autumn, to be able to savour the little things that the valley and its community can give”.
“Val di Fumo for me is water, it is strength, it is glacier. It gives me this feeling of something glistening, flowing water that plays with the stones of the river. I also find this movement in my sculptures, which are worked smooth”.
