Val Nambrone as told by Debora
Debora, born in 1987, is from Carisolo - Val Rendena. She was the first woman in the Giudicarie area to become a forest custodian.
Who is Debora?
A Forestry graduate. Alpine chamois are her favourite animals. She studied their young for her thesis and believes that we have a lot to learn from animals. She has enjoyed wandering the forests since childhood and her passion for the mountains was passed on to her by her family: by her father, who always took her to Val Nambrone and Cornisello, and by her mother.
When she studied in the city she could not wait to return to the mountains. Now, not only does she walk through them every day because of her job, she has chosen to live there in her own way. Her family has always owned a “casa da mont”, an isolated mountain cabin in Campolo, a few kilometres from the village. She lives there alone for most of the year. She cultivates her vegetable garden, enjoys the peace and quiet, and descends every day to work before climbing back up to new heights and new valleys.
Having the innate sensibility to be able to experience such a territory makes you free.
Love for her territory.A woman among many men, she is respected in her role and authority because her eagerness to learn and her love for her territory are immediately recognised by those around her.
From time to time, she accompanies primary school children to the “Festival of Trees”, a regular event for pupils in our valleys. Recalling when she would participate as a child, she says that her passion for the land, forests and nature also comes from here. If, at the end of the day, one of the children were to say: “I want to do the same job as Debora”, it is thrilling for her and a small achievement to have conveyed some of her enthusiasm for a simple and natural life.
What she appreciates most about our valleys is that when you explore them, you are eased into the ability we all have, all the time, to observe the small things and appreciate silence, more than in other noisy and hectic places.
