An easy, partially circular route lasting a couple of hours, which starts from the Rifugio Lupi di Toscana, located on the Altopiano di Boniprati, and winds along the forest road leading to Mount Melino. Once you reach your destination, you will get to admire extensive grazing lands and splendid views of the surrounding mountains. Given its morphology, this route is perfect also for families with children.
Begin by following the asphalt forest road that leaves the Rifugio Lupi di Toscana behind you and enters the dense pine forest, gradually gaining height until you reach Dosso Alto, after a couple of hairpin bends. From here, the route emerges from the vegetation onto a dirt trail, in Mount Melino’s direction. Near the summit you can see barracks and trenches from the Great War, and a bench nearby, where you can rest and enjoy the view. For the return journey, follow the same route as the outward journey to Dosso Alto, then keep to the left and take the dirt trail in the Predello’s direction, i.e. opposite to the uphill trail, which always leads to Boniprati, to continue in this loop trail.
Popular belief has it that Mount Melino does not have a real summit because, at the dawn of times, it was a volcano. Over the years, the crater closed, giving rise to the clearing you find when you reach the destination. Indeed, by taking a closer look to the soil, you’ll notice it is made up of volcanic matter.
