With an area of one thousand square meters, it consists of a casemate battery, two ground batteries and a warehouse and barracks building.
Fort Larino is one of the five original forts making up the “Lardaro Barrier”, connected by a series of walkways, trenches and tunnels: it is a 1st phase fort, i.e. one of the first to have been built. In fact, it was built between 1860 and 1861, shortly after the birth of the Kingdom of Italy, on a spur descending from Doss dei Morti. In 1879, modernizations were made. Its size will impress you: with its “L” shape, it extends over about 900 square metres and is surrounded by a moat. The designer was Oskar Meiss von Taufen. Inside: guard rooms, kitchen, food supply room, infirmary, dormitories and prison cells to host up to 3 officers and 122 men.
