Sixth stage of the Dolomiti di Brenta Trek that from Rifugio XII Apostoli leads to Rifugio S. Agostini.
The Rifugio S. Agostini (2,405 m) is located in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Dolomiti di Brenta, the Val d’Ambiez, narrow and tight in the lower part and which, as you approach the refuge, opens into a beautiful amphitheater. The refuge is dedicated to Silvio Agostini, a mountain guide who fell in 1936 from the Campanile dei Brentei. From west to east, vertical Dolomite walls frame the basin, the most famous of which is the Ambiez wall, climbed annually by hundreds of climbers. The refuge was built by private individuals in 1937 and passed to the S.A.T. in 1976. Expanded and renovated, the new refuge was inaugurated on September 17, 1995. From here you enjoy an extraordinary view towards the south: the Giudicarie valleys, Lago di Garda, and the Monte Baldo in the background. Next to the refuge is a small chapel, while above stands a solitary huge rock, witness to the collapse that occurred in the late 1950s of Torre Jandl, a peak that overlooked the Vedretta d’Ambiez and the refuge.
