Tuckett & Sella Refuge

Tuckett & Sella Refuge title=

Rifugio Tuckett & Rifugio Sella | 2,200m (7,218 ft)

Location
Alta Val Nambrone / Pinzolo

Description
Rifugio Sella (dedicated to the founder of the Italian Alpine Club) and Rifugio Tuckett (named after the British mountaineer who dedicated his efforts to exploring Brenta) are two very popular mountain lodges (2,200m / 7,218 ft) and are easy to access from Madonna di Campiglio. These gateways to the magical world of the Brenta group feature an amazing view of the central section of Brenta, including Castelletto Inferiore, Cima Sella, and Punta Massari, where the majesty of these great cliff faces is there to be captured in photos.

Access
From Madonna di Campiglio, road to Ristorante Vallesinella – 5 km (3 mi). From Vallesinella, take trail no. 317 past Rifugio Casinei and Sella del Fridolin (1.75/2 hours) or trails no. 382 and 317-bis to the upper Vallesinella falls and Malga Alta di Vallesinella. Alternatively, from Passo Grostè (gondola lift from Campo Carlo Magno), take trail no. 316 (1h 20’). The lodge is accessible from June to September (check opening and closing dates).

Themes
Rock | Sunset

This is an ideal spot to work on rock photography due to the majesty of the peaks mentioned above. It is easy to move around the area surrounding the lodge, although you will need to be careful in certain points to get past rock outcroppings, and you’ll be able to take creative landscape shots with a wide-angle lens or amazing close-ups with a telephoto lens. Sunsets here are also golden delights out towards Sella, Punta Massari, and Bocca di Tuckett.

Time
By late afternoon, the sun begins to set behind Cima Presanella, so mornings are best for landscape shots of the Adamello-Presanella group and afternoons for the Brenta group with the sun at your back, and if your timing is right, you may even have the good fortune of catching the alpenglow.
